Since his draft in 2016, Dak Prescott has played for only one team, the Dallas Cowboys. It’s been eight years and the loyalty remains intact. However, lately, the quarterback has been talking more about the possibility in the foreseeable future where he might be seen on the football field sporting the white and blue jersey no. 4.
As it appears, his team hasn’t initiated any extension talk with him, despite the fact he led the Cowboys to the playoffs with the NFC East title and a 12-5 season. It appears the major fraction of that one loss has been shoved over Prescott’s feet, and so had he lost the faith of owner Jerry Jones.
The Cowboys had chosen to pick the fifth-year option of Prescott’s contract, amidst the rumors that they are likely to draft his successor: a quarterback, in the upcoming draft. Jones as well as asserted wanting more action from his star players.
At the press conference ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, Jones explained why the franchise is hesitant to offer their star quarterback a long-term contract. He stated if the Cowboys offer an extension to the star quarterback, they may have to pay a hefty price for it from their offense.
We want Dak [Prescott]. We think that there’s room for growth. If you are a team that has a lot of cap room, and then you have a quarterback for a little while that is well underneath in his rookie contract — San Francisco last year, us with Dak early after we had [Tony] Romo — boy, we had a lot of credit card use there on Romo . He further highlighted when Prescott joined, the franchise didn’t have to empty the salary cap largely and was also able to keep Tyron Smith. The Cowboys owner argued that Prescott has had the “best-supporting cast” so far, but moving forward if they offer him a lucrative deal, the team has to dismiss that supporting cast behind the quarterback.
To move forward, we will have to diminish that. That’s a fact. That’s the rules. That’s our challenge and to make it work out. Dak as the quarterback Cowboys, I don’t even have a blink on that one. Jerry Jones added
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones: “Dak (Prescott) has enjoyed some of the best supporting casts that you could put around him.

This season, the three-time Pro Bowler is counting $55.4 million over the Cowboys salary cap. Though he had said earlier of not concerned about becoming the highest-paid quarterback, it appears he is preparing himself for elsewhere.
