Running back Derrick Henry was officially introduced as a member of the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.
Both Henry and Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta explained to reporters how badly they wanted to join forces this offseason, and even as far back as last year.
Derrick Henry on joining the Ravens: "It was a no brainer for me."

DeCosta acknowledges that the Ravens "tried to trade for Derrick before the trade deadline." And he felt like there was a reasonable chance it would get done. He said Henry was the guy they wanted in free agency.

Though the Ravens are one of the younger NFL franchises, they've had some stellar ball carriers in their history. Among them have been former AP Offensive Player of the Year Jamal Lewis, three-time Pro Bowler Ray Rice and arguably the best rushing quarterback ever, Lamar Jackson.
DeCosta dished the ultimate praise for Henry and said he's already one of the best to put on a Baltimore uniform.
Ravens GM Eric DeCosta praised Derrick Henry's power, speed and durability. "He's knd of a unicorn," DeCosta said.

DeCosta on Henry: "This guy is a warrior. He's right up there with the very best that we've ever had."

King Henry is the oldest of the top-tier running backs who entered free agency this winter, turning 30 years old in January. Still, he's played at least 15 games in all but one of his eight seasons in the league; he was limited to eight contests in 2021 due to a Jones fracture.
Henry wasn't quite as dominant in 2023 as he's been in the past — tying his career low at 4.2 yards per carry — but he still managed his fifth season of at least 1,000 rushing yards. Henry led the NFL in rushing attempts (280) for the fourth time, finished second to San Francisco 49ers stud Christian McCaffrey in rushing yards (1,167) and was third in carries for a first down (63).
DeCosta is clearly thrilled that the organization landed its top target as Henry and Jackson should form one of the most unique and exciting backfields next season.
